It is officially less than a year {352 days to be exact} until Mike and I say I do! We are so excited to finally start planning for the next 12 months!  I want to share my experiences and take you all along the journey. Who knows, you may even use this series as an inspiration for your big day!

We have been busy searching for venues and putting together a wedding binder/planner.I think it’s important to either hire a planner or get extremely organized  {like us} especially since it is an important, BIG event in your life. I have been reading that a lot of people find wedding planning to be stressful, but we’re trying to do things a little at a time so we don’t get overwhelmed.

Along with wedding planning I am working full time, working on finishing my last semester of college and putting together my resume all while trying to manage a breathe in between. I am so thankful that Mike is so involved in the planning process.

This past month, we picked our colors/theme, type of centerpieces/decor we want and most importantly, we picked our venue! I will fill you in on all the little details we’ve been working on this past month along with some tips that helped us.

Wedding colors/Theme.

Searching for the perfect colors for the big day can be a challenge. I have fallen in love with so many different color schemes and then hated them the next week. The colors we chose for our wedding are white and gold with pops of dusty blue. It is very clean and modern and exactly what we were going for. It is going to be very modernized with a vintage feel.                  Tip: Look for colors that go with the season. Also, deciding on a theme first can help.

Searching for the perfect venue was very tough. We are budgeting and paying for our wedding ourselves and a lot of the venues did not fit within our budget.Take advantage of your surroundings. If you live near the mountains or near the beach, like we do, you can find much more than a hotel or country club. We finally found something that would work for us and our budget. It is a gorgeous venue with a  breathtaking view! Tip: Research and visit different places & request prices. If youre budgeting, take into consideration how much is offered in each package.

The centerpiece can be made so many ways. They can be as big or as small as you’d like. You could use florals {faux or real}, candles, pictures or all of the above. It’s your big day, so do what you love. We’re making our centerpieces by incorporating all of our colors with florals and candles. Tips: Unless it’s in your budget, {& you’re crafty} don’t pay someone to make your centerpieces. You can purchase bulk florals on or and create them yourself for more than half the cost.

Hopefully this information is helpful for some of you. Are any of you planning your wedding, too? Do you have any helpful tips to add?

  1. Ohhhh what a fun time! I remember wedding planning like it was yesterday, I had so much fun doing it. It helped that my mom was on board to pretty much be our wedding planner, which took a lot of the stress off us! I can’t wait to see photos!
