Pretty makeup starts with pretty skin! The one thing I obsess over more than makeup is skincare. Growing up with cystic acne and struggling with it as an adult, has made me more aware of the things I can and cant put on my skin. Over the past 5 months I have been sticking to a strict regimen that has cleared up my acne and has made my skin glow and appear healthy (hopefully for good!).
If any of you struggle with acne or just want some good skincare, keep reading!
1. Start with your diet
Some may think it’s a myth when someone says pizza and sweets will cause acne. The truth is, they do. But not for everyone.
I did the whole 30 last summer, if you don’t know what it is, you can read my blog post Here. After the whole 30, my skin cleared up and I then knew that dairy was the main factor of my stomach pains and acne. Even now if I have a slice of pizza or ice cream, I might wake up with a pimple and a belly pain. Same thing goes for sugar. If I have too much sugar, which is rare, I will notice a pimple or two within the next day or so. I recommend trying the whole 30 or just cutting out sugar and dairy and see how your skin reacts to it.
2. HYDRATE!
Water is your friend. It is good for you inside and out! I start every morning with a huge glass of ice water and if I’m not drinking my morning coffee or protein shake, water is what I’m drinking! That doesn’t mean you cant have any other beverages, but water is essential in overall health and its just what I prefer.
3. Makeup remover + Wash your face 2x a day
When I was in my teens and early 20s, I never used a makeup remover before washing my face. I would just immediately wash it with the cleaner and have left over makeup all over my towel. I never thought anything of it. While i thought my face was clean, I had all of that left over makeup still sitting in my pores overnight. Which ends in you guessed it. ACNE!
Once I started using a remover, a makeup wipe or this micellar water are both perfect, my skin felt cleaner after washing. I got a facial a month before my wedding and the esthetician recommended vitamin C for my skin. We all know vitamin C as something for our overall health, but I never knew about it for skin! Now i cant get enough! I am in love with the Vitamin C wash from Soap and Glory. It smells like a fresh citrus and the beads help exfoliate my skin. My face always feels refreshed and glows! i highly recommend it!
4. Vitamin C Serum
Like the cleanser, vitamin C serum is now my holy grail! I cant go without it. It helped clear up my acne scars and continues to make my skin glow! This Mario Badescu brand is a favorite of mine. (this rose water is heavenly, too!) I apply a couple drops right after I cleanse my skin and let it sink in before applying my moisturizer. Always moisturize, morning and NIGHT! Even if you think you don’t need it, you do!
5. Live a Happy life!
I know when I get super stressed, I will get a cystic acne bump on my jawline or neck. It is easier said than done, but start by taking deep breaths and stepping back from a stressful situation. It’s not worth the acne!
These are the 5 steps that I have been taking and it has been working! Thank you for stopping by and let me know in the comments below if any of these have helped you!

Love the Soap and Glory wash! (I stocked up on 3 huge bottles when they were on super clearance after Sephora dropped the brand). I alternate it with the Murad AHA+BHA exfoliating wash–skin has never been happier! Glad to see someone else that enjoys Soap and Glory!
