We’ve all been there. Life gets busy and hectic to the point where we feel like the weight of the world is on our shoulders. Sometimes we push ourselves to reach our full potential, which is great, but it leaves us needing a break. A break to relax and clear our minds. I’m sharing the 5 ways that I De-stress my life.
1. Exercise/ Go for a walk
Exercising helps to release endorphins and makes us feel good! Set aside 30 to 45 minutes to yourself 3-4 times a week to get a good workout or walk in. Not a fan of the gym? No excuse! I’m not a fan of the gym, so I workout with Jillian Michaels and Shawn T at home. They are very motivational and have great routines that keep your heart rate up! Bonus, it feels like I have personal trainers in my living room! Even if I’m tired, I always feel more awake and great afterwards! You will, too!
2. Read (or blog!)
Reading transports me to a different setting and clears my mind of my own stress. While I was in college, I enjoyed reading motivational books. Sheryl Sandberg’s book Lean In gave me a lot of inspiration and insight. I highly recommend adding her books to your “must read” list! I also love a good fictional book. Recently I read Big Little Lies and really enjoyed the plot. Lastly, blogging. Blogging about things I love and sharing them with all of you gives me a feel-good feeling and I love it! If you don’t blog, keep a journal. You can look back on it and see how much you’ve grown.
3. Sing. Laugh. Dance
These 3 things are definite stress relievers. I have an hour (sometimes longer) to and from work each day. If I’m not listening to a Ted Talk (I highly recommend Ted talks!) I’m singing the whole time! Am I the greatest? Nope! But it makes me feel so happy and relaxed! Laughter is the best medicine! My husband knows just what to say and the faces to make to make me laugh hysterically! He knows it, too. I’ll even laugh at my own jokes. Don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself and have random dance parties in the kitchen.
4. Relax with candles/aromatherapy
Vanilla and mint scents are known to ease your mind and relieve stress. Light candles, snuggle up on the couch and put on your favorite show or movie. Or even take a bubble bath with candles. Do whatever relaxes your body, even if it’s just 1 night a week. Your body will thank you!
5. Rid of toxicity/negativity
It is so easy to put ourselves down and compare ourselves to others. Know your worth and don’t stress the small stuff. (Easier said than done, for sure!) When I read the quote “Comparison is the killer of joy” it really sunk in and I’ve had a new perspective. You don’t know the journey somebody had to take to reach their destination. Just keep working hard and you’ll get there, too!

This is a fantastic list! I chase after two toddlers all day and unfortunately I get a little wound up. I definitely need to learn to enhance my calm.

Yes! What a great list! I love to read to destress, especially in the tub with a glass of wine by my side. Getting rid of negativity is so crucial too! It doesn’t matter how good or stress-free of a day I have, any negative vibes just send me spiraling down quickly. Hope your day is stress-free and happy-to-be!
