You all know I love wearing my makeup and sharing routines, but today I’m going to talk about the thing I enjoy the least- cleaning my makeup brushes! I find it tedious and time consuming, but it is so necessary to maintaining healthy skin. We should be cleaning our brushes once a week and I’m SO bad about it. I need to get better and I’m sure a lot of you do, too! So to multitask, I like to do a face mask and whiten my teeth while I clean my brushes. That way I don’t feel like I’m spending all that time on brushes & gives me a little more motivation to do it! Lol Okay, let’s dive in!
I like to gather up all of my dirty brushes and head to the bathroom with my secret weapon- Dawn dish soap. Dawn dish soap is perfect for cleaning brushes and I’ve used it for years. It’s gentle enough for the bristles, but gives them a deep clean by breaking down the oils and bacteria.
For my beauty blender, I put it in a bowl filled with warm water and soap and squeeze it A LOT until the make up is off the sponge. Then I rinse it clean making sure all the soap is gone.
If you guys don’t have a brush cleansing palette, you NEED one! It is a total game changer and helps SO much and makes for a quicker brush cleaning process. I used to swirl my brushes around in soap on my hand, but this is SO easy! I love the Real Techniques brush cleansing palette. It’s so inexpensive and it fits right onto your hand, making it easy to hold onto. It has 3 different textured grooves throughout the palette to really get into the bristles and give them a deep clean.
Follow these 4 steps below and see just how easy it is –
1. Slide the palette over your hand. It is a nice silicone material making it easy to fit comfortably on anyone’s hand.
2. Squirt about a drop or 2 of Dawn dish soap into center of the palette.
3. Wet your brush and beginning swirling the brush all around the palette. The palette will get dirty full of makeup, but just rinse out the palette a couple of times.
4. Rinse brush thoroughly until the water is clear and no more makeup runs off and place on a clean paper towel to dry!
That is it you guys! It usually takes about 30 minutes depending on how many brushes I have to clean, but with the palette the process is so much faster! Now go clean those brushes!
