Our Love Story | 9 Years Together

image

Mike and I have spent the past 9 years together, growing and learning through our 20s. There truly is nobody else I’d rather spend my days with. I thought it would be fun to have Mike on my blog today to do a little Q&A and answer 9 questions about us. It’s a little different than a normal post, but I think you guys will like it. Grab a snack & enjoy!

Where and how did you guys meet?

Mike and I met in 2008 while working at Sam’s Club. Rumor has it he was too shy to talk to me, but he did and the rest is history.  I was 19 and Mike was 22. We started hanging out with groups of friends, then we went on tons of solo hot cocoa dates. We would just go grab a hot cocoa and talk all hours of the night . After weeks of dates and one front porch kiss, on January 30, 2009 we were officially a couple.

How did Mike propose?

It was so sweet and unexpected! We were both working full time and full time students at the time. It was on October 23, 2014, on a day we had class and I was having the best day because I Aced both of my tests. After class we decided to stop for our favorite dinner – SUSHI! On the way home, I wanted to snack on candy while I studied (like always. Gummy worms & M&Ms anyone?! ) and suggested we go to the store to get some. Mike said that we had some M&M’s at home., but I couldn’t remember if we did or not, but took his word for it. Once we got home, I sat down and began doing my homework when Mike surprised me with my favorite study snack, M&M’s + a surprise message written on them. He got down on one knee and asked me to spend forever with him! I had to ask him to tell me everything he said after the initial shock wore off because it felt like a dream. I even asked if this was real life! ha ha.  It is truly a memory we both will remember and cherish!

What is your favorite thing about each other?

Jessica – My favorite thing about Mike is his sense of humor and kind heart. Almost all of my blog pictures have a laughing picture either before or after because he is always making me laugh. I could make a collage of all of my laughing hyena faces!! lol Even while grocery shopping, I can’t help but laugh at his antics. Aside from making me laugh, he is always the sweetest and not too many people get to see that side of him, but I love that I get to!

Mike – My favorite thing about Jessica is her laugh, she hates when I record her laughing and she hears it. She is also one of the most kind hearted people I know, I don’t think there is a mean bone in her body. I usually curse like a sailor and she never curses, maybe I should try it….but I probably won’t.

What is your favorite thing to do together?

We love to eat snacks and binge watch Netflix series. We also love to watch comedians together. Currently, we’ve been obsessed with This Is Us. It is just too good.

What is your favorite food to eat? Can you decide on a place?

It is always so funny that all the memes we see are about the wife/girlfriend being indecisive, but in our situation, it is definitely Mike! I will name so many places and he will say no to all of them and then say idc whatever you want! My favorite place to eat is anywhere with Pizza or sushi. Mike loves Mexican food. So its always a toss up of whether we want those foods.

What was your first impression of each other?

Jessica – When I first saw Mike, I thought he was very cute. Since we met at Sams Club, I saw him 2 different times  and actually thought he was 2 different guys! He was working in the pharmacy and in grocery so I saw him dressed in dress clothes and casual clothes. I also didn’t have contacts back then, so that is partially the reason for my mix-up!

Mike – When I first saw Jessica, I thought she was stuck up. After I found out it wasn’t true and talked to her I knew she was far from stuck up. That’s why you cant go off of first impressions.

Where was your first date?

We hung out a lot on hot chocolate dates, but our first official date was when we went to Ruby Tuesday for dinner.

What is one thing you have learned from each other over the years?

Jessica – I think I have learned to have a thicker skin. I used to (and sometimes still do) take everything to heart. Mike never lets anything get to him and I have learned over the years to apply that. It has made me a little tougher or so I like to think.

Mike – I have learned how to be a better communicator and express myself more. Jessica has always told me that rather than walking away from a situation, its better to talk it out and express yourself.

What do you think has made your relationship last this long so far?

Communication & love. Talking, hearing the other person and understanding them is everything. Every night, we eat dinner and talk about our day. No phones, just the two of us. I leave a lot earlier for work than Mike and come home around the same time he does, sometimes later. We maybe get 2 hours a night to spend time together during the week so its nice to have that quiet time alone just reflecting on our day. Enjoy the one you love!

Thank you so much for reading! We hope you enjoyed our little(longggg) Q&A!

My Updated Skincare Routine

img_1447

You all know I’m obsessed with my skincare! If you’ve been following me for a while now, you know that I’ve struggled with acne and have tried so many products out there. I finally found what worked for me and cleared up my acne. If you’re struggling with acne, you can find that post Here.

Now that my skin is acne free, minus the occasional pop ups, my skin care routine has changed. I’m all about keeping my skin looking hydrated and youthful while maintaining my complexion.

Cleanser

Soap & Glory Vitamin C wash|Tula Purifying Cleanser

If you have not added vitamin C into your skin care routine, you NEED to! It is a total game changer! This cleanser is so refreshing and the micro beads really exfoliate and cleanse my skin. The vitamin C will help brighten your skin in the process. The smell is refereshing and clean. I’ve recently added the Tula line to my routine and love their products! This Tula cleanser to my routine, alternating the two. This cleanser has probiotics and natural ingredients to help your skin look flawless and youthful. I recommend getting both, if not one of them. If you’re on a budget, the Soap and Glory is budget friendly and SO good. If you want to splurge a little then go with the Tula.

Moisturizer

Naturewell| Tula Day& Night cream| Clinique moisture surge| Exuviance hydragel

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Many people think moisturizing is a woman thing, but it’s really a people thing. No matter who you are, your skin will get dry and lose collagen. Mike basically follows the same skincare routine that I do. He loves getting new products just as much me! This vitamin C moisturizer is so good and has a light citrus scent. I apply it morning and night. Like i said previously, vitamin C brightens your skin and gets rid of any hyper pigmentation your skin may have. It is a must! I also apply this Tula moisturizer on top. It has a nice clean scent, but it’s not too strong. Recently, I have added this Clinique moisturizer and it is so good! It leaves my skin so silky and fresh. I use the Clinique at night blended in with the other two products. I use This Exuviance gel 1-2x a week to maintain my oil and any pesky acne that might want to appear.

Eye Creams

Estee Lauder Resilience Lift|Tula eye renewal|Estee Lauder Perfectionist

I apply one of these eye creams every night. I like to change them up and rotate them. This and this Estée Lauder creams are hydrating and reduce any puffiness. I have been in love with this Tula eye serum lately. It reduces puffiness and i have noticed a decrease in the definition of the lines under my eyes. They’re all a little on the pricier side, but they are worth the money!

Face masks

Jan Marini Skin Zyme| Tula Treatment Mask

I love using a mask 1-2x a week. This Tula probiotic mask has little micro beads and my skin looks so fresh every time! It is a quick mask and perfect for nights when you don’t have much time, but want to freshen up your skin. This Jan Marini mask has been one of my favorites lately. The consistency is like a moisturizer and it doesn’t dry to the skin. It gets a little sticky, but once i wash it off, it looks like i just got a facial. It has a strong smell, but it’s not terribly unbearable.

Weight Loss |Achieving your Goals

1|2|3|4|5|6

We’re already 2 weeks into the new year! How many of you have stuck to your goals? It can be tough especially if losing weight is one of your goals for the new year. I have personally stuck with it and have been eating healthy morning to night, but trust me, I know how easy it can be to get into a rut. I know i haven’t really shared the FIT part of My blog, but this year I’m all about it! If you need some extra motivation, keep reading for some tips that i follow to maintain my weight loss goals!

1. Set yourself up for success

Having the right tools is key to achieving any goal. Meal prep so you can grab and go in the mornings without putting a thought into it. Organize your fridge so that breakfasts and lunch are accessible. Put your water bottle/ protein next to the fridge so you don’t forget to fill up! Lay out your workout outfit for the next day. Having to rummage through your closet and drawers will more likely make you feel like you “have nothing to wear” and you’ll prob just stay home. It helps if you have some cute athletic wear. You will feel more confident and ready to power through your workout.

2. Have a support system

Let your family and friends know the goal you are trying to reach. Having someone hold you accountable will have you in the mindset that you need to do this. Join a Facebook or Instagram group that offers encouragement and tips. They may even offer you support throughout the day or week! Getting texts of encouragement help motivate you to get it done.

3. Start small

Saying your goal is to lose 50 lbs this year is great, but don’t set the bar so high. Start with 5 lbs a month. It’s much easier to reach a smaller goal that will eventually lead up to your greater goal. Once you reach that you will feel more successful and motivated.

4. Remember the why

Think about the why. Why did you set this certain goal for yourself? Will it make you happier in the end? Will you feel better? Stay true to yourself and you will be successful.

Very quickly i just wanted to share what I’ve been eating for breakfast. I have been cutting back on my daily coffees for green tea and drinking a smoothie. Saturday was the only day i actually made egg white, but they’re so easy and delicious. Recipes below!

Smoothie-

1 cup of almond milk

Handful of blueberries

1 banana

1 packet of Vital Proteins (purchase Here)

Granola to top

I just mix it all up in my bullet blender and it’s delicious!

Egg white scramble-

Pretty basic recipe, but so yummy.

2 egg white

Chopped peppers and onions

red pepper flakes

Cook it together in the pan and voila! Told you, it’s nothing fancy.

I hope this helps you stay motivated. Pass it along to a friend if you think it will help them! You can do it! Remember, we’re all in this together!

New Year, New Goals + 2017 Reflections

2017 will always be one of the most memorable years of my life! Marrying my best friend and getting to spend forever together was what i was most looking forward to in 2017. I promise i will have a wedding recap up possibly on our 1 year anniversary! So be on the look out for that. We gained a new addition to our family this year! I finally have a sweet niece who was born in July! We have slowly been getting our house together, but we still have a ton to do. I think its best to take our time designing and finding pieces we really want rather than spending money on spontaneous pieces. I love these reflection posts so I can look back at the years to come and see how much I’ve grown.

I celebrated 2 years of blogging on Glam Fit Foodie! I really wanted to challenge myself and grow more with my little blog in 2017 & I did. I worked hard, received some amazing opportunities and met some inspiring bloggers. I am going to have the same ambition and goals for the new year and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future. Everyone seems to love my beauty posts which i love because they are my favorite to create. Its fun to try things and share what genuinly works. I received several opportunities that i turned down because the products just weren’t something that I was comfortable promoting. I just love sharing products and tips with you all and I would never share something I didn’t love or use.

One topic I want to talk more about on my blog this year is home decor. We have a lot of progression planned with our home this year, so there will be tips and ideas for home decor coming this year. I love designing and finding pieces for less that look more expensive. Seeing everything I envision come to life makes me so happy. I’m glad Mike has an opinion on things and helps me decide which pieces to buy.

Last year I made it a point to take care of my health and i am so glad I did. I have suffered from migraines for years and if you have them you know my pain! After countless migraine medications I decided to see a chiropractor and boy am I glad I did! After xrays, this is what he found: My neck is curved the opposite direction, 2 of my vertebrates have arthritis, my atlas bone was pushed to the right side (where I experience my migraines) and my lower back is curved with a starting formation of scoliosis! The Dr said no wonder I was in so much pain all the time and didn’t know how I functioned daily. I’ve been seeing him for the past 2 months, 2 days a week. I feel better than I’ve felt in years! I’ve had a migraines maybe 2 times since I’ve been going and I would get them 4-5 times a week! I encourage everyone to take care of themselves and don’t put things off!

Staying on the healthy track, I want to try to lose weight and gain muscle mass to the point where I am comfortable. I want to encourage myself to exercise at least 3x a week. I may try a juice cleanse for a week or something to reset my body. I have a big sweet tooth and want to limit the amount of sweets I eat in a week.

In 2018, I am most looking forward to nourishing my mind and soul with positivity and encouragement. I want to continue to work hard and be kind each and every day. I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for me. I’m ready for ya!

Thank you to all of you for following and supporting Glam Fit Foodie. I can’t wait to create new content for you all in 2018! I wish you all a Happy new year of love and wishes beyond your wildest dreams!
