4th of July DIY | Crop Tops & Nails

I cannot believe we will be celebrating July 4th in just two short days! While watching fireworks and celebrating with family and friends, looking the part is a must. My sister, Savanah, and I turned men’s tees into two cute crop tops. We think they are perfect for any party plans you may have. Wear them to a barbecue in the park or over your swimsuit for a pool party! Oh ya, we painted our nails, too! We had a little too much fun in the process, but we always act weird and silly when we’re together! What else are sisters for!

Making the crop tops are so easy and sew free. All you need is a patriotic shirt and scissors!

1. Start by cutting the sleeves of the shirt about 1/2 inch in. Follow the curve of the sleeve.

2. Cut around the neck of the shirt about 1/2 inch in or more to fit your preference.

3. Put the shirt up to your body and see where it hits just below your belly button. Fold the shirt in half and cut about 3/4 of the way in. Turn your scissors to make a diagonal, triangle like cut. Open the shirt and cut straight across the back to cut the ties off of the back of the shirt. You only need them on the front. It should look something like box 3.

… And you’re done! Pair your top with a cute white bandeau and ripped shorts.

This top is a little more time consuming, but the results are so cute!

1. Cut around the neck of the shirt about 2 inches in. Put the shirt up against your body and cut straight across about 2 inches below your belly button.
Start making cuts from the bottom about 3 inches high and 1/2 inch apart.

2. If you love your shirt how it is, you can leave it. Savanah tied two pieces together with little knots to create a little more structure to the shirt.

Pair this top with white shorts and a bandana!

For our nails, we tried a bunch of different things on each nail. One fun thing we did was painting the colors on a sponge and pressing it onto our nails.  Just grab your red, white, and blue polishes and go crazy. Don’t forget to add a touch of sparkle!

What fun things do you all do for the 4th?

Relaxation 101 | Do What Makes Your Heart Happy!

Sometimes life can get hectic and busy, but we need to remember to  take time out for ourselves. Relaxation is a must to rejuvenate and clear your mind. I know what you’re thinking. There aren’t enough hours in a day. I have way too much on my shoulders right now to take time to myself.  I’m right there with you! It seems I rarely have a minute to breathe between school and work.

While both of those things are important, I am constantly thinking that life is just passing by and I am always looking towards the future. I need to be present and live in the current moment. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been learning to take time to myself and do things that make my soul and heart happy!

Practicing yoga has always been my favorite thing to do. It is my hour to find my inner peace and just let go. Let go of negative energy. Let go of school and work. Let go of whatever it is that is on my mind and just relax. Stretching out my body helps rid of toxins and I always feel long and lean after. I always incorporate other exercises, too. Working out definitely helps me get into that relaxed, energized state and I always feel refreshed!

Candles & Cuddles.

Candles not only warm up a room with a delightful scent, but the smell is relaxing. Preferably scents in vanilla or mint are known to relax the mind and body. I love snuggling up on the couch, candles lit, while watching one of my favorite shows.  Shows are usually 30 minutes to an hour. Take that time to yourself!

Reading inspirational quotes daily definitely put me in a positive mood. I love reading other peoples blogs and stories. Reading inspirational things helps to motivate others. Knowing that you’re not going through things alone. Family and friends are always great motivators. Having an amazing support system definitely helps me stay on track and work towards my dream even more. One thing that always bothers me is that I’m finally going to have my Bachelors degree at 26. At least I can look back and say i never gave up and will finally be on the path to getting my dream career. Instead of giving up and letting it discourage me, it motivates me to keep going. When you have big dreams, you don’t just throw them away because of age, struggles, or little bumps in the road. I keep pushing on and know that I will make it!

The Great Outdoors.

To this Florida girl, the beach is my idea of the great outdoors. I love the sound of the ocean and the smell of the salty air. Even in the hot temperatures, the beach is a nice place to relax and clear your mind. If you love hiking, skiing, or any other outdoor activity, do it! It’s good to get out, disconnect from the world and smell the fresh air.

Spending Time with my Loved Ones.

Surrounding yourself with loved ones decreases your stress level. Even if they’re loud, funny, and crazy like mine! We always have lots of laughs and fun. Laughing is good for the soul! I always try to see my family at least once a week. Make time to see your family, especially if they are local. Always, always, always make time for your Significant other. Even when our lives get crazy busy, my fiance and I always make time to have a date night or even grab lunch together after class. It is a lot different than the usual dinner at home. It keeps the sparks and romance alive.

Cooking & Blogging.

As you can tell from my blog, I love to cook and I have a blog because I love to write! Taking time out to make delicious meals for my loved ones and blogging to share my ideas makes me happy. It is something I love and enjoy! They are definitely things that make my heart happy!

Little Things.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make us most happy. Saying “Hi,” to strangers. Smiling. Loving. Bubble baths. Manis/Pedis. Glamming up for no reason. Girl time. Reading your favorite magazine or book. Sending out an “I miss you” card. Helping someone in need.  Calling your mom. Sweet tea. Coffee. Don’t forget to say I love you and let people know you care. Dancing. Sushi. Laughing. Singing along to every song on the radio. Acting silly.

Life is always so unexpected and you never know what each day may bring. Stop. Smell the roses (in my case, coffee!). Live life now. Enjoy the little moments that bring you joy. Smile. Don’t ever be afraid to laugh at yourself. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Live for you and nobody else.

What things make your heart and soul happy?

Four Years of Birthday Wishes| Happy Birthday, Isaiah!

Today I wrote a special blog post dedicated to my sweet little nephew!

Birthdays are so much fun to celebrate. Like I mentioned in my fiancé’s birthday post, I love celebrating my family on their birthday! Besides the presents and cake, the special moments we create is the best! I wished my nephew could’ve shared my birthday, but he has his own special day 3 days before mine!

Four years ago on June 2, my oldest nephew was born. Isaiah is one of the sweetest little peaches I know! Of course he has his cranky moments, but what little kid doesn’t? He’s definitely not a little baby anymore.

At 4 years old, he loves dinosaurs, swimming, and chicken nuggets. He is so full of life and innocence. I am so fortunate to be his Auntie and watch him grow.

He has the funniest personality, too! Last week I went out to eat with my sister and nephews. Isaiah said, “Mom, I want chicken nuggets, mac n cheese and French fries and ketchup!” I couldn’t help but laugh and think about how much time has flown by. It seems like not that long ago he couldn’t go anywhere without his binky and I could barely understand his words. Now he’s ordering his own food!

Isaiah Brice, my beebee chubbs, sweet little peach, Gemini baby; I hope you have the best birthday! You deserve the world and nothing less. I hope you get spoiled rotten! (Of course you will; Auntie Jess is going to be around! ❤) I love you!

Happy 4th Birthday, Isaiah! 🎈🎂🎉
